AMF Snowmobile Model Identification

1966 Models: (1500 produced)

Model 5820 AMF "Sno-Clipper," 15HP JLO, Reddish brown with white trim, rear tool bag, round tail light, tapered running boards. Early models had brown skis, later models white skis. With the exception of a few very late models, the Sno-Clipper made no reference to "Ski-Daddler" on the serial number tag.

Model 5810 Ski-Daddler "Power Sled," 10HP JLO, cable operated choke control white with chocolate brown trim, engine console, trunk, constant width running boards, triangle "AMF" tail light. Note: a few early 5810 Power Sleds had the Clipper style hood with no engine console.

1967 Models--First year of "Grayline" sleds: (4500 produced)

All had silver seat, black backrest, bolt-on fiberglass belt guard, plastic gas tank in front of tunnel, kickstand stowed with spring hooks, removable access cover on top of hood.

Model 5811 "Snow Scout", JLO 257cc 10HP, front bumper optional

Model 5812 "Super Scout", JLO 292cc 15HP, front bumper optional

Model 5813 "Cruiser 22", MAG 540 21HP, electric start, forward/neutral/reverse, 22" wide track, kickstand, front bumper (mounted to cowl)

1968 Models, Revised decals, front bumper now standard except 5811: (7000 produced)

All models silver seat, black backrest, quick release belt/clutch cover, spring-loaded kickstand (no hooks)

Model 5811 "Sno Scout," 247cc JLO 10HP

Model 5812 "Super Scout MKI," 292cc JLO 15HP

Model 5813 "Wide Track 22," 540 MAG engine w/electric start,rated at 24HP. Gearbox with F-N-R, front bumper (mounted on pan), kickstand, 22" wide track.

Model 5814 "Super Scout MKII," 297cc JLO 17.5HP

1969 Ski-Daddler Models, one-piece removable hood with narrow stripe, fuel tank now integral part of tunnel, black lower cowl, revised decals: (15,200 produced)

Model 5811 "Sno-Scout", JLO 247cc or optional JLO 292cc, black seat and black seat back

Model 5813 "Wide Track 22" MAG 540 24HP, electric start, raised seat with storage (this model still had removable engine cover, now painted silver)

Model 5814 "Super Scout MKII," JLO 297cc, optional electric start, silver seat, silver seat back

Model 5815 "Super Scout MKIII," JLO 372cc 24HP, opt. electric start, silver seat, silver seat back

Model 5816 "Super Twin, " JLO 592cc opposed twin or 634 Hirth twin

Model 5818 "Wide Track 18" Lloyd 386cc engine (recalled from factory, lack of power. Replaced with 1969 1/2 MK23)

The XX sleds were made starting in 1970. The XX295, XX1400, and XX1440 were made and possibly others. The 400 and 440 used an AMF modified version of the 493 Hirth engine called the "BP" These engines were also used on the 71' XX1400 and XX1440. AMF top end used reed valves. The 295 was a 295 R Hirth.

The '71 XX1300 and XX1340 used an Arctic Cat skid suspension system for the track. This suspension looks similar to the Panther skid frame . The '70 models used the normal '70 track and bogie system.

The '72 XX sleds were aluminum, and only came in XX1300 and XX1340 models. The '70 and '71 XX sleds were steel.
